Why Hire A Product Videographer?

Your product tells a story, and a product videographer might be that storyteller that you need.

Every product has a story. Take something as simple as a snowblower, for example. Anyone looking to purchase a snowblower knows that they’re going to need it in a truly miserable time, usually when they’re buried under a ton of snow and trying to get out of the driveway.

That experience may be universal, and you can probably picture it, but now think about the video.

Our protagonist wakes up, puts on their morning coffee, opens the curtain to look outside, and lets out a stream of (censored) expletives loud enough to make the birds take flight. Their driveway is completely covered in snow, and they need to make it out of the house for an important meeting.

Thankfully, they just bought their brand new snowblower. They get it all warmed up, turn it on, and within minutes that driveway is clear with almost no effort. While the rest of the street is busy shovelling and complaining, they’re off to their meeting without a bead of sweat or a hair out of place.

When you write about that kind of product, or take photos of it with great lighting, it helps a prospective buyer paint a picture in their mind. Yet nothing, absolutely nothing, beats the impact of seeing that product in action. When you watch it tackle a heavy snow, you know that you need it in your hands before the weather turns.

So, why else should you hire a product videographer?

Their trade is trends

When you work with a product videographer, you’re working with someone who does this for a living. That means that they have an up-to-date sense of what’s trending - what might attract the most eyeballs, and what’s going to look out of date.

Years ago, a static visual of a person standing behind a table or a desk holding a product and explaining how it works may have done the trick. Today that’s a stale approach in most industries, and it wouldn’t do much to help your sales.

Instead, product videographers know what ideas are trending. They know that consumers are looking for humour, and authenticity, and that they want something that’s going to catch their eye quickly. They know what’s hot in terms of colours, sound, movement, etc. and they’ll work to incorporate that into your videos.

They bring fresh ideas to the table

“But what if we did it this way?”

You may have ideas for your video production, but guess what? Your videographer does, too. Once they see your product first-hand and understand what it can do, they’re going to come to the table with a whole lot of new ideas on how to best tell your story. Some of those ideas may not work for you, but others might.

It’s often true that ‘two heads are better than one,’ and that’s definitely the case when you bring in an outside videographer. The added perspective that they can offer is going to give your content a fresh look and feel that you would not have accomplished in-house.

You may not love all of their ideas at first glance but hear them out - they know what they’re talking about!

They know the details cold

One of the quickest reasons a product video can fall flat isn’t because the idea is bad - it’s the technical pieces that let your product down. Bad lighting, poor sound quality, awkward angles and choppy editing can all make your product look unappealing, and they’re all avoidable.

A professional videographer has access to gear that you may never have even heard of! They’re going to bring studio quality lighting and sound to the table. They know how to put your product in the best light - literally and figuratively - to make it more attractive to potential buyers.

If the look or feel or shape or sound of your product is the most enticing part, don’t let it get lost in bad production value. That added dose of expertise is what can help take you to the next level.
